Judging on the genre of our movie, I made some research to find the most appropriate production companies to produce, exhibit and distribute our film. Due to the fact that it is and independent movie, I decided to try and steer away from the more known and conventional companies such as DreamWorks Pictures, and attempted to find smaller institutions which focused more on the indie genre.
Fox Searchlight Pictures, established in 1994, is a division alongside the larger 20th Century Fox. Specializing in independent, british, dramedy, horror and foreign films and often very involved in the distribution of these movies. I found this company suitable as our film brief would fall under several of the categories mentioned being a british independent film involving the quirky elements of a dramedy. Both the movies Garden State and Little Miss Sunshine which strongly resemble our film with their tragic plot, young protagonists and quirky characters were produced by Fox Searchlight Pictures.

Another possible candidate for the productions of our movie would be Focus Features. It is the Art House division of Universal Pictures, acting as a distributor and producer for it's own films. Art House is strongly connected to the Indie Genre, therefore I found this company perfect for producing and distributing our film. Several movies that have been produced by this company are Lost In Translation, The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Taking Woodstock and Somewhere. All of these movies possess a sort of dreamy atmosphere where the protagonist is not sure of where they are in life and what our role is and I really would like to incorporate this mood into our movie.

A final possibility for the production of our movie would be Summit Entertainment, a company specializing in Independent Movies much like our own. It is mostly famous for the Twilight Saga. Although this movie could be considered very mainstream nowadays as Twilight is such a popular book, it possesses many elements we would love to explore in the opening of our film. Twilight portrays a young female protagonist that is not sure of what to expect when she is placed in a completely new environment. The insecurity that she feels strongly reflects the feelings of our protagonist as she will slowly have to learn how to live without her best friend.
